Ford F-150: All aluminium body

The body of the new Ford F-150 is entirely aluminium. Ford claims this will
result in better fuel economy.

However some feel its a risky move by Ford.

The fact that aluminum is softer than steel makes it seem a poor choice for the exposed bottom of truck beds, to me. Do these trucks come with bedliners?

Does that mean it will not rust?
As in drive it on salty roads and it will never rust?

That is the cool thing about living here in Cali you do not see rusted cars hardly ever.

I hope Ford has done its home work well. Just reading the comments gives
me the impression that consumers are more interesting in a reasonably priced truck.

Sometimes the assumption is made that large corporation has a feel for what the public wants only to be proven wrong.

Remember Coca Cola.

Considering the F150 is a giant in Ford sales I'd be shocked indeed if it doesn't work.

Buy a new one, rip the drivetrain out and install a 300 straight six with a 5 speed? :D

A 1974 Ford Maverick with a straigh six saved my life once.

Then perhaps Ford should test public reaction with some other model.

I don't know much about metal.

I do know what angles and pressure do to beer cans.

It's been done before with cars. I believe the main complaint was that it dents too easily.
But, then, the gauge of steel automakers use today dents too easily anyways.

It's all about CAFE. I blame Obama.
